THE PITMASTER

AR Tillery's Barbecue is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream that kicked off on a Weber Kettle, flipping burgers for buddies back in high school. I've always had a hankering for the rich flavors of barbecue, no matter which neck of the woods it comes from. There's a special kind of magic when meat and smoke get friendly, and I've been smoking and grilling for over 35 years. I've poured countless hours into the art of smoking, stirring up sauces, and whipping up rubs that'll have your taste buds dancing. I believe in constant improvement and striving to make everything better. Every lip-smackin' bite from AR Tillery's Barbecue is a taste of the deep-seated joy and love I pour into my craft.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

As a kid, my great-grandma, Minnie Pearl Brock, would make the best meals for anyone and everyone who came to her humble home. She was born in 1901 in Atkins, Arkansas and always put other people first in everything she did. She was well known for her gardening, canning, and hospitality. She taught me that the most important things in life are very simple. She never drove a car and she rarely ever watched TV. She spent her days gardening, sharing Jesus with folks, and sharing meals around her kitchen table. I spent many Sunday afternoons at that table devouring her black-eyed peas, fried okra, and fried chicken while listening to stories and laughing together. Sitting at Grandma Brock's table is where my desire to see people connect over a good meal began.

FOR THE LOVE OF BARBECUE

I consider myself a bit of an outlaw in the barbecue world. I love all kinds of barbecue and I don't subscribe to any particular style. In fact, some things I make can't be connected to any specific region. I work to blend spices, sweeteners, smoke, and meat to create flavor profiles that I can call my own. I'm not trying to be anyone else and I think that helps me to be my best.

Barbecue isn't just about amazing food - it's about community. It's about sitting around a table or a fire pit telling stories, laughing, and enjoying life with those you care about. Whether you're sitting around a dinner table, picnic table, or tailgate, we hope our food is part of making good memories. If you need someone to share a meal with, hang out at the trailer and we'll do our best to keep you company.

IT'S ALL IN THE NAME

You might be wondering how we came up with the name. Well, my name is Rod Tillery and Artillery has always been a nickname that people called me. To me, the AR stands for our family's deep roots here in Arkansas. I still have the old lantern that sat on the front porch of the cabin where my grandma grew up just behind the lodge at Petit Jean Mountain. Every time I look at it, I think back on stories my family shared over the years. My grandma met and married my grandpa, Billy Tillery, who was the patriarch of the family. He passed away a few years ago after living a full life and it is a deep honor to carry his name. And there you have it, AR Tillery's Barbecue.

Grandpa was the kindest and most humble man I've ever met and he always set a great example for us.  He passed away a few years ago after living a full life and it is a deep honor to carry his name. And there you have it, AR Tillery's Barbecue.
